overview David D. Kim, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Public Health Sciences at the University of Chicago. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Cost-Effectiveness Analysis Registry at the Center for the Evaluation of Value and Risk in Health at Tufts Medical Center. As a health economist, Dr. Kim's primary focus centers around measuring the value of health interventions and providing guidance for value-based health care decisions. His extensive research encompasses three key areas: (1) evaluating long-term health, equity, and economic impact of health interventions using simulation modeling; (2) measuring the use and consequences of low-value care; (3) enhancing methodology in economic evaluation and research prioritization. He has written several pieces highlighting the gap between guideline recommendations and actual practice in cost-effectiveness analysis with future directions for improvement. Recognizing the need for reliable tools to facilitate value-based decision-making, he has developed a formal quality assessment tool for cost-effectiveness analysis, called the Criteria for Health Economic Quality Evaluation (CHEQUE) tool. He has also created a decision framework and checklist to assess the transferability of economic evaluations. Dr. Kim received his PhD in Health Economics from the University of Washington and holds a Master's degree in Biostatistics from the University of Michigan.
